The Difference Between Good and GREAT w/ Gymnast Dave Durante of Power Monkey Fitness – Episode 210

Episode 210 Dave Durante | Barbell Shrugged

This week the crew and I traveled to PowerMonkey Fitness Camp. It’s basically a week long summer camp for adults who LOVE fitness to come out and learn from some of the best coaches in the biz.

For the last 2 years I’ve attended this camp as an athlete.

I’ve always told the Barbell Shrugged crew that we have GOT to get out there and interview some of these amazing coaches.

So it’s mine and the new crew’s pleasure to bring to you our first guest interview with part owner and creator of Power Monkey Fitness, Dave Durante.

Dave is a multi-time Men’s Gymnastics National Champion and was an alternate as part of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Team. He’s competed and coached in the sport of gymnastics for over 20 years.

From start to finish, this episode is full of powerful nuggets ranging from advice on how to train like a champion, to the discussion about the “Monkey Method”, which is Durante’s 4 phases of gymnastics development that can and should be applied to your CrossFit training.

If you’re looking for some powerful motivation to make the “not so sexy work” much more fun in your training, you don’t want to miss this episode.

I hope you enjoy!

      Hey Mark,

I hope you enjoyed the show. We’ll try to be better about having someone write in some notes.

      In the meantime,

      Here are the phases:
      1. Mobility/creation of shapes/body awareness,
      2. Controlled static holds
      3. Dynamic motion/kipping
      4. Sequences/complexity

      Best,
      McG
